Job Opportunity: Executive Director, Ontario Basketball

The Board of Directors of one of Canada’s fastest-growing sports organizations seeks a modern sports leader with a passion for basketball and the skills and understanding to lead the Ontario Basketball Association to its maximum potential.

This is an exceptional Tier 1 sports management opportunity where cultural diversity values and basketball knowledge to an extensive range of management requirements to advance the sport of basketball throughout the province.

Leadership and people skills are fundamental to success. Leading a team of up to 20 + staff, 185 member clubs and some 50,000 players, coaches, administrators, and volunteers, the OBA Executive Director must work effectively with stakeholders from communities throughout Ontario to academic networks, various levels of government, professional sports, sponsors and allied associations at the national and provincial levels across Canada.

While we are financially secure, post-pandemic OBA will soon return to a multi-million dollar operation with several revenue streams and excellent potential for dynamic growth. To realize that potential, we seek an innovator, a change-maker with a view of the future of basketball and a road map. They will possess an intimate knowledge of basketball, how it operates and how it is organized. The ideal candidate will be a highly respected individual with a developed network in basketball circles and a relationship builder with the credibility and connections in the world of basketball to expand that network. An excellent communicator, the ED will have the ability to inspire, motivate and cultivate talent that empowers a team to reach the next level and the ability to share that skill with stakeholders. We seek a strategist who can set challenging goals and achieve them.

OBA is a value-driven organization. More than being an equal opportunity employer, the ED must possess an intrinsic understanding of the inherent strengths of cultural diversity to ensure this value is inherent in every aspect of our operations and accepted by our stakeholders across Ontario. We apply that value-driven principle to all strategy and operations, incorporating the dual philosophies of LTD and CS4L to ensure our players are the best they can be and to ensure as many Ontarians as possible come to know and experience the values of sport, particularly basketball, in their daily lives.

The ideal candidate will possess relevant post-secondary education, preferably an advanced degree, extensive management experience in a sports-related environment, basketball knowledge, and proven fiscal management and people skills. The Executive Director will be able to demonstrate the leadership necessary to work in a cooperative environment to mobilize and manage diverse stakeholders in pursuit of common goals.
