Our Purpose

The OBA Development League was created to complete the developmental pathway for grade 9 & 10 high school student-athletes and for current OSBA member institutions.

Eligibility
Student-Athletes must meet all eligibility requirements:

  • High School Enrollment
Student-Athletes must be enrolled full time in Grade 9 or 10.
Each team is allowed to identify no more than 3 Grade 8s holding roster spots (maximum of 15 roster players).
  • Age Eligibility
Aligning with U16 OBL age requirements – Maximum age: Student-Athletes must be under age 16 as of January 1, 2024.

School Centralization

  • Boys’ Division
Student-Athletes must all attend the same academic institution.
Any identified Grade 8 athletes must also be within the same academic institution as the OBA Development League Team (if an academic institution is only Grade 9-12, they will not be eligible to have grade 8s on their roster).
  • Girls’ Division
It is encouraged that Student-Athletes attend the same academic institution for the 2023-2024 season, however, it is not required.
Programs must declare if they are running “centralized” or “decentralized” prior to the start of the season.
Any identified Grade 8 athletes do not have to attend the same academic institution for the 2023-2024 season.

OSBA Participation
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL GRADE 8’S BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE OSBA IN EITHER DIVISION.

Boys’ Division
Student-Athletes enrolled in Grade 9 and 10 who compete in both the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association AND the High Perfomance D-League MUST:

  • Attend the same academic institution as the OSBA team.
  • Be registered on the senior roster prior to the start of the regular season.
  • Any mid-season pick-ups will need to apply for an exception and demonstrate grounds as to why they are a late season add.
  • Student-Athletes that are declared and holding a spot on the OSBA rosters are limited to a maximum number of games played on the OSBA roster before they will not permitted to return to the junior team (number of games TBA).
  • A game played = name appearing on scoresheet and dressed for an OSBA game.

  • Attend the same academic institution as the OSBA team
