The Head Coach, Women’s Basketball is responsible for the development, implementation and supervision of all phases of a high-performance Varsity Women’s Basketball program. This is done through an integrated student-athlete support team approach that pursues provincial and national prominence and enhances the reputation of the University. The Head Coach is a leader in basketball operations, including the planning, strategic development, coaching, recruiting, staffing, budget development, marketing, community engagement, stewards alumni and purses annual fundraising opportunities for Brock’s basketball program. The Head Coach, Women’s Basketball, will personify the values of Brock Sports & Recreation, exemplifying equity, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of student-athlete development in a safe sports environment.

As the Head Coach, Women’s Basketball you will:

  • Responsible for the overall development of a student-athlete high-performance basketball program with the implementation of an approved yearly training program (YTP);
  • Lead in the YTP planning with the support of Brock Sports Performance and Medicine staff including an integration of sports science program elements;
  • Support student-athletes by collaborating with Brock Sports Student-Athlete Services on balancing the athletic and academic student experience, including an integration of existing academic and support resources;
  • Responsible for the development, implementation and execution of an ongoing comprehensive five (5) year strategic basketball student-athlete recruitment and retention plan;
  • Lead the overall process of recruitment, ensuring prospect identification, ongoing written and verbal communication, letters of intent (LOI) and the provision of allocation of student athletic financial awards;
  • Ensure all recruiting regulations are in accordance with the University, Brock Sports, Ontario University Athletics (OUA), USPORTS and other regulations and policies as applicable:
  • Prepare annual program budget that includes expenses that align with all team operations program elements including but not limited to human resources, travel, equipment and apparel needs;
  • Responsible for the overall program administration to ensure effective organization of all team operations, and related activities, including the scheduling of games, training camps, practice sessions, and other team functions;
  • Develop and execute partnerships and fundraising plans that include collaborating with Brock Sports Development Officer, Men’s Basketball Program and Brock Recreation, to develop and implement community outreach programs that support recruitment and participant development in the sport of Basketball;
  • Develop, collaborate and execute a plan to identify, engage, and cultivate alumni and other supporters of the Women’s Basketball program;
  • Hire, train, support, develop, mentor, evaluate performance and manage assistant basketball coach(es) as well as part-time and volunteer positions that support the basketball operations.

What you need to Succeed…

  • A University degree in a related field, combined with Comp-Deb Certified or an equivalent combination of education and coaching experience;
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license with an acceptable driver abstract;
  • Acceptable police check to be submitted every three years;
  • A vulnerable sector check as required for program delivery;
  • Rowan’s Law Certification;
  • A minimum of three (3) years of successful coaching experience at the post-secondary or National level or equivalent;
  • A minimum of three (3) years of Recruiting experience and knowledge of the Canadian Women’s Basketball system;
  • Knowledge of coaching principals and practices with the ability to plan on a five (5) year continues timeframe;
  • Knowledge of OUA, USPORTS rules and University regulations and policies;
  • Ability to nurture, guide, teach, motivate and inspire student-athletes and coaching staff
  • Ability to deal with challenging situations, some of which may arise during travel;
  • Ability to identify team and player needs and develop corresponding development plans.

Preferred or Asset Skills…

  • First Aid, CPR, and Mental Health First Aid

Salary and Benefit Information

  • Job Grade (M), Salary Scale ($68,600-$117,600)*;
  • Target Hiring Range:$80,000-$90,000;
  • This position includes full comprehensive benefits including tuition waiver.

*The salary range indicated is representative of all positions evaluated at this level. Actual salary is determined by assessing related skills, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness, subject to available budget.
