Ontario Basketball COVID-19 Update

Remaining 2020 OBA Championships cancelled due to coronavirus

MARCH 27 – Ontario Basketball (OBA), in accordance to Canadian and global health authorities, has made the difficult decision to cancel all programs including the remaining OBA Championships on the 2020 calendar through May for U13 athletes and older.

OBA appreciates the support of our basketball community in your cooperation and understanding. This decision is not being made solely for the health of our players, coaches, and officials, but also public health.

With rapidly developing risks associated with COVID-19 it is not safe for our basketball community to play – or train towards playing – in these end-of-season tournaments with thresholds of public gatherings set at 50 people and the encouragement of social distancing. We encourage all Ontarians to follow public health advice as we are in the midst of a global health crisis that is far more significant than sport.

Cancelled events include:

  • Provincial Championships and Ontario Cup
  • OBL Weekends
  • OBL All-Star Game (May 2)
  • All remaining OBA-sanctioned tournaments

Teams and parents are asked not to contact hotels or Sport-Travel. All hotel reservations will be cancelled and Sport-Travel will be contacting team managers directly with details.

Ontario Basketball would like to thank our basketball community for their patience and cooperation during these unprecedented times as we came to this decision as part of our collective responsibility to protect our communities and work to contain the spread of the virus.
