Recap: 2019 OBA Annual Meeting of Members

The 2019 Ontario Basketball (OBA) Board of Directors election saw the return of familiar faces.

Incumbent candidatesBarbara Capes, David Coulthard, and Claude Nembhard were re-elected at the 2019 Annual Meeting of Members (AMM) on Saturday, November 9 at the Abilities Centre in Whitby.

The officers for 2019-20 are Steph Rudnick as President, Capes as Vice-President, Coulthard as Treasurer and Erica Gavel as Secretary.

They join Mike Quigley (Director) and John Rocchi (Director) alongside John Lovett (Regent) and Ontario Association of Basketball Officials’ representative Rick Parnham to form Ontario Basketball’s Board of Directors.

In addition to corporate governance at the AMM, Ontario Basketball’s Clubs and Competitions Director, Mike Barbin presented an update on OBA‘s Club Excellence strategy. Barbin discussed the current pilot phase of Club Excellence in advance of a full program rollout for the 2020-21 basketball season. Additionally, a motion was passed to alter the wording of the By-Law to attract a broader range of professional backgrounds and experience to the OBA Board of Directors.
