Jr. NBA Youth Basketball

Jr. NBA Youth Basketball is a national youth basketball program for children ages 5 to 12 that encourages a fun, active and healthy learning environment.

The 12–week curriculum complies with Sport for Life’s Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) Model and is aligned with Canada Basketball’s Development Pathway.

Jr. NBA is a turnkey program, providing hosts with the full curriculum, participant materials and coach training required to deliver the programming.

Not only will participants learn the fundamental skills of basketball through fun, engaging games, they will also learn essential life skills including leadership, sportsmanship, teamwork and respect.

Whether you have been a Jr. NBA Host in the past or are interested in being a part of the Jr. NBA community, we are excited to have all of you back for this upcoming season! While the past year has been tough, we are preparing resources for the Fall 2021 season which will make running a Jr. NBA seamless, and most importantly, FUN!

Over the course of the summer, our Jr. NBA team will be hosting Zoom info sessions to provide all coordinators an understanding of how the Jr. NBA Youth Basketball program can be integrated into your organization.

Topics of discussion will include:

  • What is the Jr. NBA Youth Basketball program?
  • How the Jr. NBA Youth Basketball program differs to other local programs
  • Exclusive opportunities available from Canada Basketball & NBA Canada through the Jr. NBA
  • The Onboarding Process
  • Safe Sport and Return to Sport Requirements with the Jr. NBA

To discuss these updates, and to answer any questions you may have about running a Jr. NBA program in your region, our team will be hosting 1-hour Zoom info sessions throughout the summer on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, July 7, 2021 – 5:00  p.m. EST
  • Wednesday, July 21, 2021 – 5:00 p.m. EST
  • Wednesday, August 4, 2021 – 3:00 p.m. EST
  • Wednesday, August 18, 2021 – 3:00 p.m. EST

With the fall approaching, we are sure you are looking for after-school & weekend programming available for your child and are excited that you have stumbled upon the Jr. NBA!

The focus is on fun – get involved!

Program Details

Curriculum

  • Weekly 45-minute practices for 12 weeks (designed for athletes ages 5–12)
  • Aligned with Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) and Sport for Life principles
  • Curriculum developed by NBA Basketball Operations and a team of experts in child development and physical literacy
  • Modified games that are age-appropriate, simple and FUN!

Coaching

  • Jr. NBA Coach Training provided for free by Jr. NBA Ambassadors

Equipment and Uniform

  • Program includes age-appropriate equipment (smaller basketballs and Spalding adjustable hoops)
  • Participants receive a Spalding basketball and NBA team branded t-shirt

Cost

  • Based on facility and staffing costs associated with the local program
