Ontario Cup Advisory

We are now within a month for Ontario Cup preparations and wanted to issue some reminders and advisories ahead of the much-anticipated provincial basketball championships.

First note – get your scores in! Coaches who have not yet entered past game results must do so as soon as possible in order for your team to be properly seeded for Ontario Cup.

A common question during the Ontario Cup at the Learn to Train (U10-12) level is about equal shifting and number of players required on the bench. Teams must have 10 players to start their first game only. The team will be permitted to play in further games through the tournament should injuries or circumstances prevent that team from having 10 as long as they shift equally. Likewise, upon a player fouling out, the team does not forfeit – they continue shifting the remaining players equally. Young player rules available here.

One notable addition to the 2018 Ontario Cup is the U14 Division 1 Boys’ and Girls’ qualification for the Jr. NBA World Championship Canada Regional. This exciting opportunity has resulted in an all-time record of teams participating in Ontario Cup.

This unprecedented rise in participation has led to an increase of 12 entire divisions in Boys’ U10-14 competition alone. If your venue or accommodations are outside the anticipated region, it’s because the resources of our host cities are being tested to capacity with more gyms and hotels needed than ever before.

Teams competing at Ontario Cup are encouraged to check the website regularly leading up to the tournament should there be a change in schedule or location.

Thank you for your flexibility and for continuing to help us grow the game in Ontario.
