OBA Vaccination Policy Update – Roster Changes Update – Effective March 4, 2022

The “OBA Vaccination Policy – Effective November 22, 2021” is amended as follows:

Update:

Ontario Moving to Next Phase of Reopening

Businesses and other settings may choose to continue to require proof of vaccination.

No requirement for vaccination

As of the date of this Policy Update, proof of vaccination will no longer be required for those participating in organized sports at recreational facilities.

This Policy Update is subject to any laws of the Province of Ontario, advice, recommendations, instructions or directives from regional public health units, and any facility-specific mandates regarding proof of vaccination. A member club may also choose to keep their own proof of vaccination policy at the club level.

Roster changes permitted prior to team registration deadline

With respect to the following teams listed below, roster changes and additions can be made until the dates indicated with respect to each team:

2021-2022 Ontario Basketball League

  • U17 to U19 Boys: March 11, 2022

2022 Ontario Basketball Championships

  • U15 Boys – U19 Men: April 1, 2022

Consistent with the OBA’s Rules & Regulations Manual, any player added to the roster before the team registration deadline will only be official when player information is registered and entered online, the player fee is paid, and a roster form with the new player’s signature has been submitted to OBA.

With respect to the following teams listed below, for which team registration deadlines have passed, no roster changes can be made at this time.

2021-2022 Ontario Basketball League

  • OBL registration open for all age groups:September 7, 2021
  • U10 to U12 Boys & Girls: October 12, 2021
  • U13 to U14 Boys & Girls: October 29, 2021
  • U15 to U19 Girls: November 12, 2021

Consistent with the OBA’s Rules & Regulations Manual, adding a player after the registration deadline will require approval from Ontario Basketball. Teams wishing to add players after the registration deadline must follow the Request for Exemption procedures outlined in Section 4.8 of the OBA’s Rules & Regulations Manual. Only after the committee approves the request will Ontario Basketball provide a Player Add Form to the individual. The Player Add Form will only be used for players being added after the registration deadline. This process is intended to be used for ’emergency call ups’ to rosters, when a team is unable to meet the minimum number of players.

For more information on roster changes after the deadline, please refer to OBA’s Rules & Regulations Manual

Masking requirements remain

Masking requirements for coaches and spectators at all times, plus athletes and officials [when not on the court] remain in effect. Should provincial mask mandates change, this section of the OBA policy will be re-evaluated at that time.
