Former CFL Vice President named to head business operations at Ontario Basketball

The Ontario Basketball Association has reached into the ranks of professional sports for an experienced leader to direct and build its business operations, Executive Director Dave Stockton announced Tuesday.

“I am very excited to have Kevin McDonald, former Vice-President of Football Operations and Player Safety for the Canadian Football League (CFL) join our team as the Senior Director of Business Operations,” Stockton said. “Kevin’s extensive experience will bring a new dimension to our ability to operate and grow the sport of basketball throughout Ontario. In addition to his specialized experience, Kevin’s demonstrated people skills and management style appear tailor-made for our multi-stakeholder environment,” he added.”

“I am very excited to be joining the OBA as Senior Director of Business Operations,” McDonald said. “With the sheer volume of participants and the many diverse stakeholders that the OBA serves, I believe my ability to forge relationships and align differing opinions in pursuit of our collective operational goals, will have a strong impact on the continued growth of the game and in advancing the objectives of OBA.”

With 20 years’ experience at the CFL, McDonald brings in-depth knowledge of sports league operations at the professional level. His responsibilities will include all non-sport related business aspects of OBA including Membership and Business Development, Marketing and Communications, Human Resources and Finance.

The Ontario Basketball Association (basketball.on.ca) is the province-wide grouping of community basketball associations, leagues, teams, officials, coaches, and sponsors within the basketball community. Working with more than 14 governmental, private sector, institutional and not-for-profit organizations, OBA develops, promotes, supports, and facilitates the sport of basketball across Ontario through the provision of programs and services. It is Ontario’s representative to Canada Basketball, the national grouping of provincial basketball organizations across Canada and the co-coordinator of national basketball teams and programs.
