COVID-19 Update: Toronto, Ottawa, York and Peel Regions to Enter Modified Stage 2

Oct 16 Update: Toronto, Ottawa, York and Peel Regions in Modified Stage 2 of the Province’s Re-Opening plan

The Ontario Government has announced that Toronto, Ottawa, York and Peel regions will be moving to a modified Stage 2 of the Province’s Re-Opening plan for 28 days. After this period, there will be review by Public Health Officials regarding possible extension or a return to the previous Stage.

The following restrictions affect team sport in Toronto, Ottawa, York and Peel regions:

  • All team sports will be limited to training sessions. No games or scrimmages will be allowed, which is consistent with OBA’s ongoing Phase 3 guidelines.
  • Closing of indoor gyms and fitness centres (i.e., exercise classes and weight and exercise rooms) which does not apply to basketball-specific spaces.
  • Updated: The limit of 10 players indoors and 25 players outdoors applies to team sports.

At this time, OBA member clubs in these areas can still follow OBA’s Phase 3 of its Return to Play Plan as only team practices are allowed. Additionally, as per the updated regulation (O. Reg. 572/20) and in consultation with the Ontario Government, the limit for team sports applies to 10 players indoors and 25 players outdoors in these three regions.
