Clarification on outdoor training for OBA clubs

Outdoor basketball at neighbourhood courts is available and has been approved for practice and training, with physical distancing rules in place, by the Ontario Government.

While outdoor play provides natural ventilation to prevent the spread of coronavirus and appears safer than indoor venues, clubs wishing to run outdoor training sessions must follow all health and safety guidelines at all times.

Any outdoor basketball activities that clubs wish to run would not be directly sanctioned by Ontario Basketball, but club insurance for athletes does extend to outdoor training. OBA members are reminded that in order to have their insurance validated they must complete the new OBA Assumption of Risk Participant Waiver if they have not done so already.

Please remember no competitions are allowed at this point, including 3×3, and no team practice where basketballs may be shared between athletes who are not from the same household.
