Ontario Basketball (OBA) is committed to providing a sport and work environment in which all individuals are treated with respect and dignity. To that end, and in accordance with By-law 1 of Ontario Basketball, the Board of Directors of Ontario Basketball has approved the following membership policy:
For greater clarity, membership in good standing is required for:
- All members of Ontario Basketball’s Board of Directors.
- All members of any Board or program committees appointed by the Board of Directors (pursuant to Articles 10.1.1 and 10.1.2 of By-law 1).
- All players participating in any Ontario Basketball League, Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association, OBA Championships, Youth 3×3, Adult 3×3, Adult League, or OBA sanctioned game or tournament.
- All coaches and bench personnel participating in Ontario Basketball League, Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association, OBA Championships, Youth 3×3, Adult 3×3, Adult League, or OBA sanctioned game or tournament.
- All teams or member clubs participating in Ontario Basketball League, Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association, OBA Championships, Youth 3×3, Adult 3×3, Adult League, or OBA sanctioned game or tournament.
- All players who participate in OBA’s Ontario Summer Development Program, Targeted Athlete Strategy, Centre for Performance and Team Ontario.
- All coaches who participate in OBA’s Ontario Summer Development Program, Targeted Athlete Strategy, Centre for Performance and Team Ontario.
- All coaches who are employed directly by OBA to provide basketball services related to Ontario Basketball’s basketball programs including but not limited to National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP), Mega Hoops, etc.
Membership Standing
Membership in good standing requires that a member be admitted to OBA in accordance with Article 3 of By-law 1. For greater clarity, the Board of OBA considers that any member who is in default of payment of fees to Ontario Basketball or to any other member of OBA for basketball services and/or programs is not a member in good standing and shall be denied the benefits of membership until said default is remedied to the satisfaction of the Board of Ontario Basketball.
Payment of Membership Fees
- Players, coaches, teams and member clubs who participate in Ontario Basketball League, Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association, OBA Championships, Youth 3×3, Adult 3×3, Adult League, or OBA sanctioned game or tournament must purchase their membership by the registration deadline as prescribed in Ontario Basketball’s Rules and Regulations.
- Members of OBA’s Board of Directors and coaches who coach in Ontario Basketball’s high performance programs (i.e. Ontario Summer Development Program, Targeted Athlete Strategy, Centre for Performance and Team Ontario) will have their membership provided to them by Ontario Basketball.
- Players who participated in Ontario Basketball’s high performance programs (i.e. Ontario Summer Development Program, Targeted Athlete Strategy, Centre for Performance and Team Ontario) will have their membership provided to them by Ontario Basketball.
- The Board of Ontario Basketball may, on a discretionary basis, provide memberships to the members of Board and program committees appointed pursuant to OBA’s By-law 1.
