Ontario Basketball No Longer Accepting Cheques in 2017-18

Effective August 1, 2017, Ontario Basketball (OBA) will no longer accept cheques as a payment option.

The decision to streamline operational processes and phase out cheque payments was first communicated through OBA’s Strategic Plan, “2020 OBA Vision”, that was unveiled at the Annual Meeting of Members on October 31, 2015.

This change comes following an internal audit to determine the resources that are allocated to processing payments. Over the past few years, with both online registration platforms that have been used, the majority of registration issues have come as a result of cheques. The process for handling and accepting cheques is slow and more cumbersome to track, while online payments are fast, secure and convenient.

Ontario Basketball will continue to accept credit card (Visa and MasterCard) and Visa Debit as methods of payment. Please note that Visa Debit has no annual credit card fees and is directed from a member club’s chequing or savings account.

Implementing this current and progressive method will mitigate delayed registrations and provide an opportunity for OBA staff to increase response time with general questions and concerns.

We thank our member clubs for their consideration and support moving forward.

Any questions or concerns can be directed to Jason Jansson, Executive Director, Ontario Basketball.
