OBA Job Opportunity: Senior Coordinator, High Performance

The Ontario Basketball Association (OBA) seeks an organized and dynamic individual to support high performance sport programs and initiatives for basketball throughout Ontario. Reporting to OBA’s Manager of High-Performance Sport, the successful candidate will enjoy working in a team environment in one of Ontario’s leading amateur sports organizations.

This is an excellent hands-on sports management opportunity for a detail focused individual. The Senior coordinator, High Performance Sport will oversee administration for all basketball leagues and officials under the OBA umbrella across Ontario. This opportunity encompasses all aspects of developing and managing basketball leagues up to and including Team Ontario.

The Senior Co-coordinator of High-Performance Sport will possess a university or college degree in sports Management or a related field, computer proficiency and working experience with Microsoft Office, and outstanding administrative and interpersonal skills. She/he will be an excellent communicator, a demonstrated self-starter and a multi-tasker comfortable meeting critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

JOB DESCRIPTION

1) Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA)

  • Oversee league administration
    • Tracking and guiding teams to complete registration on OBA platform
    • Creating both men’s and women’s schedules
    • Program requests – player add, transfers, game reschedules
    • Team submissions – game scores, Synergy game film
  • Website Management
    • Inputting scores, stats
    • Updating website – teams, rosters, schedule, etc.
  • Organize and execute league events
    • Men’s and Women’s Play-In to Final 8 Championships
    • OSBA Final 8 Championships weekend

2) Ontario Basketball Development League (OBDL)

  • Oversee league administration
    • Tracking and guiding teams to complete registration on OBA platform
    • Creating both boy’s and girl’s weekend schedules
    • Program requests – player add, transfers, game reschedules
    • Team submissions – game scores
  • Website Management
    • Inputting scores, stats
    • Updating website – teams, rosters, schedules, etc.
  • Organize and execute league weekends and Championship weekend

3) Officiating Development

  • Coordinating with League Assignors to ensure officials are scheduled for the Ontario University Athletics (OUA), Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA) and Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA)
    • Overseeing administration with assignors – smartsheet, invoicing, expense reports, game incident reports, etc.
    • Work collaboratively with OBA appointed OUA Officials Supervisor, OCAA Officials Facilitator and OSBA Officials Facilitator

4) Centre for Performance

  • Coordinate with OUA basketball programs to ensure pods are running in their area
  • Program Administration
    • Registration of athletes attending sessions – tracking of payments
  • Coordinating with Technical Director to ensure curriculum is completed and shared amongst the coaches
  • Ensuring program gear (t-shirt, reversible) are distributed to each pod location

5) Team Ontario

  • Work with the High-Performance staff members to select Team Ontario Coaches
  • Coordinate coach contracts to be distributed and signed
  • Coordinate with Medical Lead to arrange team therapists for summer and ensure they have what they need for their role
  • Administration
    • Regional tryout registration through Smartsheet – distributed online to coaches
    • Coordinating gear for athletes and coaches
    • Booking of facilities (Regional Tryouts, Top 40 Camp, Training Camps)
    • Completing registration, accommodations, and travel to National Championships
    • Tracking of payments, team budgets

Qualifications:

  • University or college degree in Sports Management or related field.
  • Experience in a sport or sport-related background is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency (i.e. Microsoft Office).
  • Be able to work independently, maintain tight schedules and flexible hours (including evenings and weekends) in a dynamic and service-oriented team environment.
  • Be able to handle multiple tasks, people and prioritize appropriately in a fast-paced environment.
  • Very strong administrative skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to meet critical deadlines.
