Nine Ontario Athletes Named to Men’s U16 National Team

On Thursday Canada Basketball announced the 12 athletes, including Nine from Ontario, who will represent Canada at the FIBA U16 Americas Championship 2019 in Belém, Brazil from June 3-9.

Canada is in Group B along with hosts Brazil, Puerto Rico and Uruguay.  Click here for the full tournament schedule.

Canada earned a silver medal at the FIBA U16 Americas Championship 2017 in Formosa, Argentina. This will be Canada’s sixth appearance since the FIBA U16 Americas Championship began in 2009, with the country medalling in each of their previous five tournaments. They are also ranked number two worldwide in the FIBA World Ranking Presented by NIKE.

Two Ontario coaches were also named to the team as assistants coach. The two slots will be occupied by Team Ontario Coach and Ontario Basketball’s Men’s Technical Lead Jason Dawkins (Toronto) as well as McMaster University’s Patrick Tatham (Milton).
