Kauri LaFontaine joins Ontario Basketball

Ontario Basketball (OBA) is happy to announce that Kauri LaFontaine joins the staff as Coordinator of Coaching Development.

LaFontaine comes to OBA from Canada Basketball, where she managed the Jr. NBA program as the Youth Development Coordinator. The role involved curriculum development, program implementation, coaching development, and program communications. She has previously worked for Rugby Canada and the Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan Am Games.

LaFontaine’s coaching experience ranges from the grassroots level to college and university. LaFontaine is currently assistant coach of the Durham College women’s basketball team. Last season, she was interim head coach of the women’s program at Laurentian University.

LaFontaine is also an alumna of both programs; she played at Laurentian for four years and suited up for the Durham Lords for one season. She was a major impact player at Durham, helping lead the team to the OCAA championship for the first time in seven years. She earned recognition as first-team OCAA all-star in addition to Durham College’s women’s basketball MVP and athlete of the year.

In addition to her coaching role at Durham, she currently serves as Director of the Ontario Basketball member club, Whitby Wildcats.

“I am really excited to be working at Ontario Basketball with such a great group of people,” said LaFontaine. “I am looking forward to be further immersed into the coaching community in Ontario and working with everyone to further coach education and development in the province.”

Beginning on October 15, LaFontaine can be reached by e-mail or phone at 416-477-8075 ext. 206.
