Job Opportunity: Technical Lead, OBA

Reports to: (OBA) Director of Basketball Operations

Ontario Basketball is looking for an experienced and dynamic individual to provide technical knowledge, leadership, guidance and support to identified male and female athletes. The successful candidate will be involved with Ontario Basketball’s High-Performance Team, liaise with Canada Basketball’s High-Performance team, work with Canadian Sport Institute Ontario, as well as coaches and players across the province.

Reporting to the Director, Basketball Operations, the successful candidate will have a passion for bringing every athlete to their full potential and works well within the community of basketball, will demonstrate an energetic attitude and desire to provide positive results. The Technical Lead is a contract service position that is funded through the OHPSI program under the CSIO. The position is a three-year term dependent on funding from CSIO.

Scope of Responsibility will include but is not limited to the following:

1. Technical leadership

a. Responsible for the technical leadership and coaching functions associated with OBA’s high-performance programs – Targeted Athlete Strategy (TAS) and Targeted Coach Strategy.

b. Provide technical mentorship and leadership to OSBA and TAS coaches. Identify gaps and opportunities in coaching knowledge and skills and work with team members to address them.

c. Lead in the training and monitoring of nationally identified TAS athletes and participate in the growth of the TAS athletes assigned to them.

d. Assist in and contribute to creating a provincial and national team program that will have long-term success and become a world leader.

2. Athlete Identification, Selection and Monitoring

a. Identifying, scouting and selecting athletes to represent Centre for Performance, TAS and OSBA.

b. In conjunction with Performance Manager of Women’s High Performance and Assistant General Manager, Men’s Basketball Operations at Canada Basketball, create an individualized and periodized performance development plan for the assigned athletes.

c. Oversee on-going monitoring process and athlete’s progress towards established and agreed upon goals.

3. Communication and Collaboration

a. Work cooperatively to implement an aligned high-performance athlete development program that is consistent with OBA and Canada Basketball’s High-Performance plan.

b. Provide feedback to the Director, Basketball Operations and Canada Basketball`s designate on youth athlete development matters they are involved in when requested.

c. Work in collaboration with Canadian Sport Institute Ontario (CSIO) with respect to the planning, scheduling, execution, monitoring and evaluation of the TAS program.

d. Communication with key stakeholders; including but not limited to Ontario Basketball, CSIO, OSBA, Canada Basketball, member clubs, parents, etc.

e. Lead in the development and strengthening of relationships with key national team prospects, families and coaches (with a focus on age-group and development athletes), as well as with key member clubs, schools and other programs within the geographical area and athletes assigned.

f. May support club and membership development conducting coaching clinics, demonstrations or simple consultation meetings.

g. Keep sports health and safety top of mind when working with others throughout the membership and community.

Qualifications:

  • Education or equivalent experience in sports management, coaching, program management.
  • Strong understanding of the LTAD model
  • Strong knowledge of the provincial and national basketball landscape
  • Minimum 10 years coaching at the Train to Compete/ high-performance level
  • NCCP Train to Compete Designation preferred
  • Certified as a NCCP Learning Facilitator/ Coach Evaluator preferred
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Superior leadership and presentation skills
  • Experience in creating reports highlighting individual and program success year-over-year
  • Current clear Criminal Record Check
