High Performance, Prehab, and 4-on-4 Action in Day 3 of OSDP

As if Day 2 wasn’t enough, Day 3 on July 17 of this year’s U12 Girls Ontario Summer Development Program (OSDP) at Georgian College in Barrie was full of fun and games—literally.

Before tipping things off with 4-on-4 games, the athletes had the opportunity to learn from Canada Basketball’s Manager of Women’s High Performance, Mike MacKay, and from Ontario Basketball therapist, Adrian Huynh.

Coach MacKay ran through warm-up, transitions, and 4-on-4 concepts as the athletes and coaches participated in exercises and drills to put those concepts into practice. Coach MacKay also emphasized the importance of developing a connection between teammates and allowing for open communication.

“If you want to be a great player, you have to accept feedback from your teammates,” he told the U12 girls.

The day’s classroom session about athletic therapy stressed key areas of sport that athletes should have knowledge of and take seriously. Huynh delivered a presentation regarding concussion prevention, the importance of hydration, and the benefits of warm-ups and cool-downs. Not only was this information helpful for the girls as basketball players, but it was also much needed information for any athlete who wants to maintain their body.

Following lunch, it was the moment all athletes had been waiting for: It was time to play some 4-on-4 basketball. This was the ultimate opportunity to put everything they had learned from the start of camp to the test, and the athletes did a phenomenal job. Sportsmanship, development, and fun filled the gym before calling it a night.

For the final day of camp on July 18, 5-on-5 games will begin in the morning. Parents are welcome to watch the games starting at 9 a.m. before the athletes head home and forever cherish the memories they have made and the relationships they have built at the 2018 U12 Girls OSDP camp.

Thank you to all athletes, coaches, staff, and guest leaders who made camp a wonderful experience.
