Eight Ontario Athletes Invited to U19 Women’s National Team Training Camp
Canada Basketball has announced the 16 athletes invited to the U19 Women’s National Team training camp, to be held July 2-13 at York University.
The camp is in preparation for the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand (July 20-28). Canada will compete in Group A with Latvia, Mozambique, and Thailand. Canada earned its first medal in eight appearances at this event in 2017, where they captured the bronze in Udine and Cividale del Friuli, Italy.

Many players named to the roster are current or former OSBA players. Aaliyah Edwards was named OSBA Finals MVP and a First Team All-Star in 2019 with Crestwood Prep. Merissah Russell was named OSBA League MVP in 2019 and a First Team All-Star in 2018 and 2019 with Capital Courts Academy.
All three current NCAA players also attended OSBA schools before heading south. Justina King attended Bill Crothers and was named an OSBA First Team All-Star in 2017 before heading to Long Beach State University. Christina Morra attended King’s Christian and graduated in 2018. Morra was named a First-Team All-Star in 2018 before moving on to Wake Forest University. Keishana Washington attended Durham Elite and graduated in 2018, and now plays for Drexel University.
