Call for Applications: Club Affiliation Task Force

Ontario Basketball is seeking interested individuals who will contribute and be part of Ontario Basketball’s Club Affiliation Task Force.  The task force will be responsible for:

  • Providing guidance to a new club affiliation model, application criteria, structure, and associated policies that all clubs must adhere to, to establish and maintain status as a member club in good standing with the OBA.
  • Ensure that the new Club Affiliation model is compliant with the Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act, inclusive of changes to the act coming into effect October 19, 2024.
  • Ensure that the new Club Affiliation model supports Canada Basketball’s Club Verification Program and associated Safe Sport best practices.
  • Provide recommendations regarding objective standards and baseline expectations for new applicants and existing member club evaluation
  • Examine the current new club affiliation process to identify how the current club affiliation model is positively or negatively impacting OBA membership growth.
  • Better understand how many clubs a highly populated geographic region can support based on population growth trends, facility availability, number of schools and competitive balance between member clubs.
  • Consider issues, concerns & challenges that have been communicated to the OBA by both existing member clubs and non-member clubs seeking OBA membership.

Ontario Basketball is looking for a diverse set of individuals from larger member clubs (15+ teams) to smaller member clubs (5 and under) to rural and west/north/eastern region clubs. All individuals who are interested in becoming a member of the Club Affiliation Taskforce must submit a letter of interest and outline experience with club basketball to Mike Barbin (mbarbin@basketball.on.ca) by 5:00pm EST on Friday, December 16th.
