WHITBY, Ont. — Wednesday, June 3, 2026 — Ontario Basketball is pleased to announce the appointment of Marc Madramootoo as the newly selected Chair of the Ontario Basketball Board of Directors.
Mr. Madramootoo brings a deep commitment to leadership, governance, community service, and sport to the role. With more than 23 years of service with the Toronto Police Service, he currently holds the rank of Detective and was recently promoted to Staff Sergeant. He is also the coordinator of the Toronto Crime Stoppers Program. Throughout his career, he has remained closely connected to community engagement, youth development, and the role sport can play in building stronger communities.
His connection to basketball extends well beyond the boardroom. Mr. Madramootoo is an Executive Member and Past President of the Toronto Police Amateur Athletic Association (TPAAA), where he also serves as Basketball Sport Chair of the TPAAA Men’s Basketball Team. Through that work, he has continued to support the game as a tool for connection, mentorship, and opportunity.

His leadership has helped guide the organization’s continued focus on athlete development, club support, equity, safe sport, and long-term organizational sustainability.
In addition to his work in sport, Mr. Madramootoo currently serves as a Board Director and Risk Committee Member for the Toronto Police Widows’ and Orphans’ Fund, an organization regulated federally by the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions and provincially by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority. He is also the recipient of the Governor General of Canada’s Police Exemplary Service Medal, recognizing his years of dedicated service.
With experience spanning public service, athletics, recreation, governance, and community partnerships, Madramootoo steps into the role at an important time for Ontario Basketball. As the organization continues to strengthen its programs, expand access to the game, and serve athletes, coaches, officials, clubs, families, and communities across Ontario, his leadership brings both professional experience and a personal connection to the sport.
“Marc brings a thoughtful, steady, and community-minded approach to leadership,” said Claude Nembhard, Chief Executive Officer of Ontario Basketball. “His experience in governance, sport, and public service will be an asset to Ontario Basketball as we continue building a stronger, more inclusive basketball ecosystem across the province.”
As Chair of the Board, Madramootoo will help provide strategic oversight and leadership in support of Ontario Basketball’s mission to grow and develop the game at every level. His appointment reflects the organization’s continued commitment to strong governance, collaborative leadership, and meaningful community impact.
“I am honoured to serve as Chair of the Ontario Basketball Board of Directors,” said Mr. Madramootoo. “Basketball has always been at the core of my life and professional journey. It has the power to connect communities, create opportunities, and positively impact the lives of young people across Ontario. I look forward to working alongside my fellow board members, Ontario Basketball staff, clubs, coaches, officials, athletes, and partners to support the continued growth of the game.”
