Update: Ontario Basketball League

Following the launch of the Ontario Basketball League (OBL) and hosting an information session on June 13, Ontario Basketball (OBA) is pleased to unveil additional details regarding the newly introduced competition structure.

The league will be open to both genders at all ages (U10 Novice to U19 Junior) and all levels of play and all teams competing in the league will be automatically eligible for the 2016 Ontario Cup Provincial Championships. While most games will be held in central locations, the league model will be inclusive of member clubs with geographic barriers and host games in numerous regions across the province.

The cost per game is $150.

OBA will create divisions for as many teams as possible but there might be situations where divisions are not competitive. In such a case, the division may not be played and refunds will be provided.

The following are the scheduled OBL weekend dates. With the exception of U15 Midget boys to U19 Junior Men where teams will play three games, teams will play two games per weekend. The schedule will be created in an effort to alleviate travelling concerns for teams (e.g. teams from London will not compete at 9:00 a.m. or 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in Toronto).

Points to Consider
• Family Day (February 15, 2016), March Break (March 14-18, 2016), Easter Monday (March 28, 2016) and Victoria Day (May 23, 2016).
• Since games cannot be played on three weekends in March, there is a chance that games will be scheduled on weekdays (geography will be accounted for as best as possible).
• The U15-U19 male and female schedules can be amended should there be no high school basketball.
• All-Star Games will take place June 11, 2016.

A deposit of $150 (value of one game) will be required when registering for OBL. The registration timeline will be as follows:

August 17, 2015: Club affiliation opens and teams can register for OBL
October 5, 2015: Final OBL registration deadline for U10 Novice to U19 Junior female and U10-U14 male (full payment)
March 21, 2016: Final OBL registration deadline for U15 Midget to U19 Junior male (full payment)
