11 Ontario Athletes Invited to Senior Men’s National Team Training Camp

Canada Basketball announced the 17 men invited to the Senior Men’s National Team training camp ahead of the FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup 2019 Americas Qualifiers.

Of the 17 invitees, 11 are from Ontario, including three current NBA players: Cory Joseph (Indiana Pacers), Dillon Brooks (Memphis Grizzlies) and Dwight Powell (Dallas Mavericks).

Meanwhile, after leading Canada to its first-ever gold medal at the 2017 FIBA U19 Men’s Basketball World Cup last summer, Mississauga native R.J. Barrett returns to the international stage, joining the national team before beginning his freshman season at Duke University.

Team Canada will train in Richmond, B.C. from June 19-21 before playing a pair of exhibition games against China on Friday, June 22 and Sunday, June 24 as part of the Pacific Rim Basketball Classic. The team will then travel to Toronto where they will resume the Americas Qualifiers for the FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup 2019 with a first-place showdown against the Dominican Republic at Ricoh Coliseum on Friday, June 29.  Canada will conclude first-round play with a matchup against the U.S. Virgin Islands at The Arena at TD Place in Ottawa on Monday, July 2.

With a 3-1 record, Canada currently sits in second place in Group D and has already secured a spot in the second round.
