U14 Boys – Ontario Cup: D1 Preview

With the U14 Boys Provincial Championships set for this weekend, the stakes are a little higher with it being announced that the D1 winners of this age group will represent Ontario at the Jr. NBA World Championship Canada Regional, with the chance to win and represent the country and move on to the inaugural World Championship event from August 7-12 at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Florida.

 

Let’s take a look at the 8 teams at the U14 Boys level looking to qualify:

#1 seed DC United

  • After a hard-fought season finishing 11-4 including multiple wins on the OBLX circuit, head coach Jason Desjardins is looking to bring his top seeded DC United squad to the championship and a trip to the Jr. NBA World Championship Canada Regional.

#2 seed CIA Bounce East

  • Coming off a solid 9-1 season and a strong victory over the #1 seed DC United in February, coaches Cedric Carter and Dean Miller are looking to lead their CIA Bounce East team to a birth in the Jr. NBA World Championship Canada Regional.

#3 seed Triple Balance

  • With wins over #2 seed CIA Bounce East and #4 seed Team Breakdown 416, coaches Ben Sanders Jr. and Chris Skinner bring a strong Triple Balance team into the Ontario Cup 2018 looking for more.

#4 seed Team Breakdown 416

  • With their only loss coming to Triple Balance, head coach Kevin Cox is poised to lead his Team Breakdown to a championship and a trip to the Jr. NBA World Championship Canada Regional.

#5 seed CKATT Select

  • After finishing 10-3 to finish the season along with collecting a big victory over the #1 seed DC United earlier in the season, CKATT and head coach Darren Javier Sr. come into Ontario Cup with a ton of confidence as they try and upset their way to a championship.

#6 seed IEM Newmarket

  • Playing a total of 21 games and winning 16 of them, coaches Lewin Carter and Derek Falkenberg bring a well experienced IEM Newmarket team into Ontario Cup weekend, and with wins over CKATT and top seed DC United, they are confident they can hang with anybody.

#7 seed MMBA (Mckenzie)

  • After finishing the season 11-2, head coach Michael MacKenzie brings a deep roster with the ability to challenge for upset victories into the Ontario Cup looking to upset their way into a birth in the Jr. NBA World Championship Canada Regional.

#8 seed Scarborough Basketball Association (Matsugu)

  • Head coach Brad Matsugu and 13-11 battle tested Scarborough team into Ontario Cup looking to shock some people and represent Ontario at the Jr. NBA World Championship Canada Regional.
