Seven Ontario Athletes Named to U19 Women’s National Team
Canada Basketball announced the final roster for the U19 Women’s National Team that will compete at the 2017 U19 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Udine and Cividale del Friuli, Italy from July 22-30. Of the 12 athletes selected to represent the nation, seven are from Ontario. Carly Clarke, head coach of the Ryerson Rams, returns to lead the team for her second year.

Laeticia Amihere was named the OSBA’s Most Valuable Player and Hanna Hall received the Sportsmanship Award in 2016-17. Amihere, Hall and Shaina Pellington were named to the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association’s (OSBA) First-Team, while Hailey Brown was named to the second team.
Amihere and Alyssa Jerome were selected to an exhibition roster with the Senior Women’s National team this past June, in which they competed in an exhibition tournament in Spain.
The team is currently at training camp, which is set to conclude on July 11 at Humber College’s North Campus in Toronto. Following the completion of training camp, the team will travel to Voiron, France for a three-day exhibition tournament from July 15-17. The tournament will consist of games against highly ranked competition including third-ranked France, seventh-ranked Australia and ninth-ranked China. Canada is currently ranked fourth in the FIBA women’s youth rankings.
The women will tip-off the U19 FIBA Women’s World Cup on Saturday, July 22 against Korea in Udine, Italy. Canada looks to improve upon its eighth place finish at the 2015 U19 Women’s World Cup.
