Ontario Player of the Week March 12 – March 18

This week’s Ontario Player of the Week dives into the OSBA with the playoffs in the men’s division getting set to begin this coming weekend. After winning his second consecutive league MVP award this past week, Orangeville Prep guard/forward Ignas Brazdeikis is the worthy recipient.

The 6’8” Mono, Ontario native, Brazdeikis is nearing the end of his senior season at Orangeville Prep of the OSBA, where he and his teammates have dominated the league this season going 15-1 in the regular season and attaining the first seed in the playoffs. Brazdeikis along with talented guard Keshaun Saunders have formed arguably the most dangerous dynamic duo in the OSBA this season. Brazdeikis capped off his incredible statistical senior season with a 41-point effort on Senior Night against rival Luguentz Dort and Athlete Institute Prep.

Brazdeikis is one of the many high-ranking commits to have already announced his intentions for next season. He was pursued by many top Division 1 schools including Tennessee, Florida, Cincinnati, Oklahoma and Oregon, before deciding to accept his offer to commit to playing for the Michigan Wolverines next season. The 4-star recruit (according to ESPN) will more than likely see immediate starters minutes in his freshman season next year with Michigan.

He was invited to play in the BioSteel All-Canadian Game, taking place April 9-11, where the top 24 male athletes born within his age group either playing in or born in Canada compete in an All-Star game, however he has decided instead to accept his invitation to play in the Nike Hoops Summit, a gathering of some of the top high school basketball talent across the globe. Alumni of the Nike Hoops Summit include NBA super-stars Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis, along with Canadians Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett.

Brazdeikis and the rest of his Orangeville Prep teammates are currently getting ready for the OSBA playoffs, where his Bears own the #1 seed in the bracket. They will be playing their first-round matchup against the #8 seed Thornlea Secondary School on March 22 at 6:00 p.m. from the Guelph Gryphons Athletic Centre in Guelph, Ontario. You can catch all of the OSBA men’s playoff action on OSBA TV the weekend of March 22.
