Ontario Basketball Reappoints Farhan Baig as OCAA Officials’ Assignor

Ontario Basketball (OBA) is pleased to announce that Farhan Baig will return as the Officials’ Assignor for the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) for the 2025–26 season.

Baig brings more than two decades of officiating and assigning experience across grassroots, post-secondary, and provincial levels, including the OCAA, OUA, Ontario Summer Games, and various national championships. He holds a Level 4 National Officials Certification Program (NOCP) designation and has officiated at numerous high-profile events, including multiple OCAA championship tournaments.

Throughout his career, Baig has been committed to advancing officiating excellence through mentorship, evaluation, and the consistent application of FIBA rules. His previous tenure as OCAA Assignor was marked by his ability to manage a diverse panel of officials, oversee game assignments with fairness and transparency, and work collaboratively with coaches and administrators to ensure the highest standards of performance.

In addition to his on-court and assigning expertise, Baig has been a strong advocate for professional development within the officiating community. He has developed structured mentorship programs, facilitated clinics, and provided targeted feedback to emerging officials, helping to strengthen the officiating pipeline across Ontario.

“OBA and OABO’s collaborative approach to the selection process reflects our shared commitment to supporting officials and elevating officiating standards in the province,” said Carmelo Mallia, Vice President, High Performance and Basketball Development. “Farhan’s proven leadership, dedication to mentorship, and deep understanding of the officiating landscape make him the ideal person to continue leading OCAA officiating operations.”

As OCAA Assignor, Baig will oversee all aspects of game assignments, evaluation, and mentoring for officials across the conference. His vision for the season includes expanding access to professional development opportunities, enhancing communication between officials and coaches, and ensuring consistent application of FIBA rules across all games.

Ontario Basketball congratulates Farhan Baig on his reappointment and looks forward to his continued leadership in the OCAA officiating program.
