Team Registration
Q: How do I register my team for the Ontario Basketball League?
A: Registration for the 2025-26 OBL season will be completed through RAMP, OBA’s membership registration system. For more information on how to register, see the OBL registration page
Q: What is the deadline for registration?
A: Deadlines vary by division and age. Please refer to the OBL about page for specific dates.
Q: What happens if my team misses the OBL registration deadline for their age group?
A: Once the relevant OBL registration deadline has passed, the registration package on Ramp will close. Teams can apply for a late registration. Teams must pay the OBA team fee via Ramp before applying for a late registration.
There is no guarantee that teams will be granted late registration when they apply. Should a team be granted late registration, they must pay the registration fee plus an additional $150. The OBA will reach out to the email listed in the application with instructions on how to complete the late registration.
Q: Can a player be on more than one team roster?
A: Each athlete is permitted to play on only one (1) OBA-affiliated team per Ontario Basketball season unless they are participating as a call-up within their club and within the maximum allowable number of games. Once an athlete is registered via Ramp and assigned to a team roster, they are required to stay with that team for the remainder of the season unless they are granted a transfer by the OBA
Q: Can I withdraw my team from OBL? Will I receive a refund?
A: If a team registers for the OBL and withdraws within 14 days after the registration-OPENING date, they will receive a refund of the registration fee, minus $100. Teams that withdraw 15 or more days after the registration-OPENING date will not receive a refund.
Rules and Regulations
Q: Where can I find the official OBL rules?
A: OBL rules are listed throughout the OBA 2025-26 Rules and Regulations Manual
Q: What is the OBL cancellation policy for teams forfeiting a game in advance?
A: If a team is unable to field a roster for an OBL game, the team must notify OBL by emailing obl@basketball.on.ca no later than 48 hours prior to the scheduled game time. In such cases, the game will not be rescheduled, either within the OBL structure or outside of it. The team that withdraws will automatically forfeit the game, and the opposing team will be awarded a 2–0 victory.
Q: What happens if a team does not show up for the scheduled game and no one was notified ahead of time?
A: If a team fails to appear for a scheduled game and does not provide at least 48 hours’ notice of its absence, the team will face additional penalties. Specifically, the absent team will be fined an amount equal to its OBL registration fee divided by the number of games it is scheduled to play in the season, plus an additional $100 fine. The result of the game will be recorded as a 2–0 win in favor of the attending team, and as with all forfeitures, the game will not be rescheduled.
Q: What happens if OBA cancels the game in advance?
A: If a game is cancelled because of poor weather, an act of God, or other dangerous conditions, the game will be recorded 0-0. Each affected team will receive a refund equal to the OBL registration fee divided by the number of games they are scheduled to play during the season, minus $60. These games will not be rescheduled.
Inclement Weather Notice
Each team must assess their own risk when making the decision to travel due to weather or other extenuating circumstances. It is not possible for Ontario Basketball to assess each team’s travel situation. It is recommended that weather and road conditions be checked prior to commencing travel.
Any decision to cancel games due to weather concerns will be published by Ontario Basketball here and will be communicated via e-mail to coaches. If no cancellation notice is published, it should be assumed that games will continue as scheduled. School boards have the authority to cancel any permit with very limited notice without consulting the permit holder or Ontario Basketball. However, these instances are out of OBA’s control, and we will do our best to communicate these cancellations as soon as notification is received.
If games are cancelled by OBA, 100% of the game fee will be refunded. If games are not cancelled, any teams that withdraw due to weather concerns, will not be reimbursed their game fee, and will still be credited as having participated in the games as forfeits. Please note that cancelled games will not be rescheduled.
Coaching Compliance
Q: What requirements must coaches meet to participate?
A: Coaches and teams must meet the requirements listed in Section 4, Competition- Compliance Standards in the 2025-26 Rules and Regulations Manual.
Q: What is the consequence if the coach or manager is non-compliant?
A: If coaches or managers fail to meet the required certification standards, the team they are assigned to will face removal from all OBA-sanctioned competitions.
Q: If my team is removed from OBL because of compliance issues, will we be refunded?
A: If a team is removed because of compliance issues, they will NOT receive a refund.
Fair Play Policies
Q: What is OBL’s Fair Play Policy?
A: The Fair Play Policy ensures equal opportunity for all athletes to participate and develop. Coaches must provide equitable playing time and encourage respectful conduct.
Q: What happens if a Fair Play complaint is made?
A: Complaints are reviewed by the OBL Fair Play Committee. Coaches and teams found in violation may face sanctions.
Q: Where can I view the Fair Play Policy’s?
A. The PDF breakdown of the policy and procedures can be found here.
Q: Can I call up a player from another team for OBL?
A: Players are permitted to be called up to an older team within their club for a maximum of 1 sanctioned tournament or 4 sanctioned games. Teams requesting the use of younger players from within their club must notify the OBA email at least 48 hours prior to the start of the relevant sanctioned game. Requests should be made only if a team is unable to meet the minimum number of player requirements for their age group. If the minimum number of players requirement is met, the request will not be considered.
Q: Are there policies in place for spectator behaviour?
A: Yes.
Zero tolerance – the coach/team is responsible for the actions of their parents/spectators. If a spectator is asked to leave and refuses to do so, the team they support will be penalized with a forfeit of the game.
Noisemakers (e.g., mechanical air horns, electronic devices) are NOT allowed for use during OBA-Sanctioned Events.
