Tall Female Athletes Encouraged to Try Out for Ontario Summer Development Program

Being tall is definitely an advantage for playing basketball, but young, tall female athletes may encounter circumstances that limit their skill development.

For example, tall players are often taught to be post players and are discouraged from dribbling the ball up the court, so they do not develop strong ball handling skills.

Ontario Basketball’s Tall Player Project seeks to identify tall female athletes starting at age 11 and to provide specialized training to address common skill gaps.

While the specialized training is for girls ages 14 to 17, Ontario Basketball encourages younger athletes from ages 11 to 13 who meet the Tall Player Project heights to:

  1.  E-mail Agnes Borg, Women’s Technical Lead for Ontario Basketball, to be identified; and
  2. Participate in Ontario Summer Development Program (OSDP) this summer.

OSDP is Ontario Basketball’s off-season basketball development program for U12 and U14 athletes. Tryouts are underway across the province, and Ontario’s tall female players are encouraged to try out!
