OBA Job Opportunity: Coordinator, High Performance

The Ontario Basketball Association (OBA) seeks an organized and dynamic individual to support high-performance sport programs and initiatives for basketball throughout Ontario. Reporting to OBA’s Manager of High Performance, the successful candidate will enjoy working in a team environment in one of Ontario’s leading amateur sports organizations.

This is an excellent hands-on sports management opportunity for a detail-focused individual. The Coordinator, High-Performance, will oversee administration for basketball leagues under the high-performance umbrella across Ontario. This opportunity encompasses all aspects of developing and managing basketball leagues, up to and including Team Ontario.

The Coordinator of High Performance will possess a university or college degree in sports management or a related field, computer proficiency and working experience with Microsoft Office, and outstanding administrative and interpersonal skills. She or he will be an excellent communicator, a demonstrated self-starter, and a multi-tasker comfortable meeting critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Incorporated in 1977 and with a history dating back 80 years, the OBA is the governing body for basketball in the province and the largest member of Canada Basketball, the national governing body for basketball. Led by an Executive Director and Board of Directors who set the strategic direction of the organization, OBA is backed by an accomplished professional staff and volunteer committees who carry out the day-to-day activities to meet OBA’s short- and long-term goals and priorities in support of over 185 member clubs and nearly 50,000 players, coaches, and administrators.

The OBA develops programs to train, educate, and advance all aspects pertaining to the growth of basketball within the province. JOB DESCRIPTION

1) Ontario Basketball Development League (OBDL)

  1. Oversee league administration.
    1. Tracking and guiding teams to complete registration on OBA platform.
    2. Creating both boy’s and girl’s schedules.
    3. Program requests – player add, transfers, game reschedules.
    4. Team submissions – game scores
  2. Website Management
    1. Inputting scores, stats
    2. Updating website – teams, rosters, schedules, etc.
  3. Organize and execute league events.
    1. Girl’s and Boy’s Play-In to Final 8 Championships
    2. Final 8 Championships

 

2) Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA)

  1. Assist league administration.
    1. Tracking and guiding teams to complete registration on OBA platform
    2. Creating both women’s and men’s schedules
    3. Program requests – player add, transfers, game reschedules.
    4. Team submissions – game scores, Synergy game film
  2. Website Management
    1. Inputting scores, stats
    2. Updating website – teams, rosters, schedule, etc.
  3. Organize and execute league events.
    1. Men’s and Women’s Play-In to Final 8 Championships
    2. OSBA Final 8 Championships weekend

 

3) Centre for Performance

  1. Assist program administration.
    1. Coordinate with basketball stakeholders to ensure training pods are running in their area.
    2. Tracking and guiding parents to complete registration on OBA platform
    3. Ensuring program gear (t-shirt, reversible) are sourced and distributed to each pod location.
    4. Coordinating with Technical Lead to ensure curriculum is completed and shared amongst the coaches.

 

4) Team Ontario

  1. Assist program administration.
    1. Regional tryout registration through OBA platform – distributed online to coaches.
    2. Coordinating gear for athletes and coaches
    3. Booking of facilities (Regional Tryouts, Top 40 Camp, Training Camps)
    4. Completing registration, accommodations, and travel to National Championships
    5. Tracking of payments

 

Qualifications:

  • University or college degree in Sports Management or related field.
  • Experience in a sport or sport-related background is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency (i.e., Microsoft Office).
  • Be able to work independently, maintain tight schedules and flexible hours (including evenings and weekends) in a dynamic and service-oriented team environment.
  • Be able to handle multiple tasks, people and prioritize appropriately in a fast-paced environment.
  • Very strong administrative skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to meet critical deadlines.
