Ontario Basketball Appoints Greg Spagnoli as OUA Officials’ Assignor

Ontario Basketball (OBA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Greg Spagnoli as the Officials’ Assignor for the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) for the 2025–26 season. 

Spagnoli brings more than two decades of leadership, teaching, and significant officiating experience at both the post-secondary, and professional levels. A respected National Officials Certification Program (NOCP) facilitator and evaluator,he has officiated at premier events such as the Wilson Cup Finals, U SPORTS Men’s Basketball Championship and the CEBL Championship. His resume also includes extensive playoff and championship experience in the OUA, OCAA, CEBL, and NBL/BSL. 

Off the court, Spagnoli currently serves as Vice-Principal at St. Marcellinus Catholic Secondary School, where he fosters collaborative cultures, professional growth, and equity in education. His previous role as a long-time Health and Physical Education Department Head and Athletic Director saw him design and implement innovative sport-specific programming, secure funding for school athletic initiatives, and build inclusive environments for student-athletes. 

Within the officiating community, Spagnoli has held leadership positions with the Peel Regional Board of Approved Basketball Officials (PRBABO), including Vice President, Lead Board Evaluator, and Chair of the Discipline Committee. His contributions have included mentoring new officials, facilitating NOCP training, and overseeing evaluations at both the collegiate and provincial levels.

As OUA Assignor, Spagnoli will oversee game assignments, evaluations, and mentoring initiatives for OUA officials, while collaborating with coaches, assignors, and league administrators to maintain the highest standards of performance and professionalism.
