Provincial Government funding for community sport clubs – Applications now open!
Ontario Basketball is pleased to share that the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries (MHSTCI) will provide funding to be disbursed to community sport clubs, with support from recognized Provincial Sport Organizations (PSOs). Funding will support community sport clubs across the province in sustaining their organizations and preparing for the safe return of organized sport.
Community sport clubs that are members of the eligible recognized Provincial Sport Organizations (PSO) in Ontario (Ontario Basketball Association) are eligible for funding. The application period runs from June 1st to June 30th, 2021.
To be eligible for ministry funding, community sport clubs must meet the following criteria:
- The member club is affiliated with Ontario Basketball and pays an affiliation fee.
- The member club is in good standing with the PSO (Ontario Basketball Association).
- The member club offers programming that supports alignment within the amateur sport system by offering a range of grassroots and competitive programming.
Community sport clubs supported through this funding will need to demonstrate expenses incurred related to the COVID-19 pandemic. This may include increases in programming expenses due to participants withdrawing from existing programs, increased expenses due to PPE and/or lower ratios of participants per facility. Community sport clubs that have chosen to run operating deficits in an effort to maintain programming fees for participants will also be eligible for funding. This program is intended to cover expenses incurred up to December 31, 2020.
This funding cannot be used towards expenses which are already covered by other government funding (Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy, Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy, etc.,) nor by the previously allocated Gyms for Kids funding. Additionally, community sport clubs are only eligible to receive funding from one PSO, regardless of if they are a member of multiple Ministry recognized PSOs. This must be acknowledged when the sport club applies to the funding program.
Please note that the funds will be distributed based on the combination of a tiered matrix and volume of applications. The funds are not meant to offset actual losses as submitted by the member clubs. Member clubs need only prove that losses occurred.
When submitting an application, please ensure the information is true and accurate, and can be validated beyond this initial request if required by the Ministry. A report of applications received by Ontario Basketball will be submitted to the MHSTCI that will summarize all information as requested.
