U17 TEAM ONTARIO GIRLS WIN SILVER AT NATIONALS

First Team All-Star - Dakota Whyte First Team All-Star - Kelly VanLeeuwen Second Team All-Star - Tiye Traore August 7th at 8:15 p.m. - Ontario 75 vs. British Columbia 80 (OT) Box Score Ontario faced British Columbia for the 17U national title before a packed house at Humber College. The two teams got off to a quick start with British Columbia taking a three-point lead at the end of the first quarter. Team Ontario battled back in the second quarter and took the lead late to close the half, leading 39-36. In the third quarter, Ontario out-played British Columbia and took an eight-point lead. The fourth quarter saw B.C. go on several runs and tied the game to force overtime. After five minutes of overtime the game was still tied at 73-73. In double-overtime, B.C. took control of the game and pulled out the win over Ontario with an 80-75 victory. Team Ontario's leading scorer was Danielle Boiago with 18 points while Emma Nieuwenhuizen grabbed 12 rebounds. British Columbia's scoring leaders were Emma Wolfram with 25 points and Stephanie Bell with 20 points. August 6th at 8:15 p.m. - Ontario 62 vs. Nova Scotia 49 Box Score The U17 Team Ontario girls played before a capacity crowd on Friday evening against Nova Scotia in a semi-final match-up. Both teams got off to a running start, with Ontario leading 23-20 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter the pace was slowed but Ontario kept a four-point lead at half. The third quarter flowed much like the end of the first half with Ontario increasing their lead by one point, 48-43. The final quarter saw Ontario pull away from Nova Scotia, winning the game 62-49. The leading scorer for Team Ontario was Dakota Whyte with 10 points while Tiye Traore had 11 rebounds. Laura Langille lead all players with 20 points for Nova Scotia. Ontario will play British Columbia for the gold medal at 8:15 p.m. on the main court. August 5th at 3:45 p.m. - Ontario 56 vs. British Columbia 54 Box Score In a game to re-seed the top two teams, the U17 Team Ontario ladies played British Columbia. B.C. jumped to an early lead in the first quarter but Ontario ended the first half strong, leading 35-32. The game stayed closed and went back and forth throughout the second half. British Columbia held the lead at the end of the third quarter 46-43. The fourth quarter saw an epic battle come to an end with a narrow victory by Ontario. Ontario's Dakota Whyte, who finished two free-throws with three seconds left on the clock to put the hosting province ahead, was the leading scorer for both teams with 19 points. British Columbia's Kolbi Roper scored 13 points and added 10 rebounds. Team Ontario will play in the semi-final on August 6th at 8:15 p.m.. August 4th at 1:30 p.m. - Ontario 68 vs. Quebec 65 Box Score In the final round-robin game, Ontario faced Quebec. Both teams got off to a quick start with Quebec slightly outplaying Ontario, going into the half with a six-point lead. Quebec kept the momentum going leading Ontario at the end of the third quarter by 10 points. In the fourth quarter, Ontario started to chip away at the lead and completed the full comeback by winning on clutch shots and plays. Kelly VanLeeuwen was the leading scorer for Ontario with 18 points while Frédérique Potvin scored 17 points for Quebec. Tiye Traore grabbed 12 rebounds for Team Ontario. August 3rd at 8:15 p.m. - Ontario 81 vs. British Columbia 59 Box Score In the finale of games on day two, the girls from Ontario overcame a hot start by British Columbia for a convincing victory. Only down two at half, BC could not find answers for Ontario’s scorers. Four players for Ontario finished in double figures, with Danielle Boiago leading the way with 17 points. Player of the Game honours went to Erica McFadden who hit four three-pointers and finished with 12 points. For BC, Taiysa Worsfold and Stephanie Bell led their team with nine points each. August 3rd at 11:15 a.m. - Ontario 70 vs. Alberta 45 Box Score Ontario got up and out to a quick lead and did not look back. Danielle Boiago led the way for Ontario with 14 points, including two three-pointers in only 20 minutes of work. Dakota Whyte also had a strong performance off the bench, scoring 12 points. For Alberta, Renee Byrne led the way with eight points and four rebounds.
